Roma
How we got there:From La Spezia we took the train to Rome Termini station which was approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. Again I recommend booking tickets in Premiere class seating to ensure space for your bags, working air condition, charging stations and seat assignments.Where we stayed: Several years ago when the Icelandic volcano erupted I found myself stranded in Rome while enroute to visit family in Budapest. Hotels quickly capitalized on the plight of stranded passengers. At that time I found the Radisson Blue by the Termini Train station. Their prices remained reasonable and the proximity to the train station was perfect. If you are passing through and would like a hotel about 2-3 blocks from the train station I would highly recommend it. A surprising blend of modern architecture and technologically savvy design makes this hotel one of my favorites. Throw in a beautiful rooftop, pool, gym and wonderful buffet breakfast it's hard to go wrong. Think industrial meets the future.

What we ate:We had two wonderful dining experiences that were classic trattorias. The first Hostaria Romana was a larger more established venue with delicious food and plenty of locals. I would highly recommendation or having your concierge call ahead on your behalf.
On our second night we dined in an old Quarter formerly part of the Jewish ghetto. Based on a family members recommendation we dined at Da Tonino where the pasta was absolutely phenomenal!Insiders tip: after your dinner at Da Torino St. Peter's Basilica is just a few blocks away and at night is just spectacular.
