Nice 2019
She is a true beauty...
How we got there:No great deals this season and with a sacrifice in quality the Delta nonstop JFK to Nice with an approximate 7 hours flight time was not a bad option. If you do choose this routing please note that Delta is still operating its 767 wide body with the old business class cabin. While a refresh is coming it will take some time. If you prefer aisle seating note that odd number seats (1A, 3A, 5A) tend to offer a bit more privacy as a the seats are shifted internally towards the window.
Where we stayed:The Hotel Grimaldi was our home for the second time in Nice. This boutique hotel with an old charm Parisian feel is a great option if you are looking for something more intimate. The hotel is approximately a 6 minute walk from the beach and offers a quaint breakfast and friendly staff. Off season you can "opt-in" for upgrade eligibility for one of the bigger rooms with balcony. We prefer the suite with a small balcony facing the adjacent church. An added benefit of this hotel are the three wonderful restaurants located literally outside the main entrance.
What we did:Nice is the type of place where the days will simply navigate themselves. In the August heat the beach clubs along the main promenade are the place to be.Insiders tip: The end of the summer season is busy and bed availability at the various beach clubs is quite limited. Get there early or ensure that your hotel is able to reserve you a bed. Tip your server well to get "front row" seating for the next day. This year we landed at the opera beach club. While a slightly longer walk from the hotel the service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. While the dining at the associated restaraunt was fine the options were limited.
Shopping: There are a few nice malls but small boutiques catering mainly to woman abound. A beautiful but small Louis Vuitton is worth the visit as it is one of the few LV's that resides in it so original location.
Dining: We did not venture far from our hotel for dinner and that worked out well since we also had our most adorable nephew with us.

ANTIBESDay Trips: With three days in Nice we did not do much exploration though you could easily get to the surrounding areas including Cannes, Monaco etc. We did have the opportunity to visit Antibes ( a convenient 14 minute train from Nice) leaves you a quick 10 minute walk from old Antibes. I would highly recommend strolling through the quaint streets and even dining in the area one evening. The area has more of an Italian/Beach town vibe.
For the ultimate in Luxury the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc falls into the category of true opulence. Nestled on a stunning cliff the main hotel (Du Cap) and the waterfront side ( Eden-Roc) are surrounded by a beautiful garden with landscaping fit for a palace. There are several dining options from fine french to the more casual grill. The Champagne bar overlooking the sea offers a stunning sunset.Insiders Tip: The Bellini at the champagne bar at the Hotel Du Cap Eden-Roc may be one of the best out there.
