Bologna / Modena 2019
While our original plans were to spend some time in the Tuscan hills; a chance opportunity to dine at the finest restaraunt in the world Osteria Francescana https://www.osteriafrancescana.it/ had us spending a couple of days in Bologna and one evening in Modena where the restaraunt is located. How we got there:The drive from the region of Liguria to Bologna is approximately 2.5 hours and is mostly highway driving.
Where we stayed: just outside the city center of Bologna we found the Savoia hotel regency. Chosen primarily for its wonderful pool which allowed us to spend the mid day (where feel-like temperatures can be upwards of 100 degrees) soaking in the pool and keeping cool. https://www.savoia.eu/
What we did:Out time in Bologna was spent exploring the Gothic arch heavy streets and soaking in the hipster atmosphere.

What we ate:We had one dinner in Bologna and we opted for a traditional meal at a splendid historic venue deep in an old wine cellar. Osteria de Poeti was wonderful and the food was delicious! Do not leave without trying their traditional Bolognese sauce! http://www.osteriadepoeti.com/it/MODENAThe streets of Modena impart a quiet calm and on a quaint and quiet corner you will find Osteria Francescana. The unassuming front facade shields this three Michelin star establishment where you are quickly whisked away into the magical and creative world of Massimo Bottura. The 12 course tasting menu is a true journey of gustatory bliss.
